Four App State students selected for prestigious national metalsmithing exhibition

BOONE, N.C. — Four undergraduate students from Appalachian State University's studio art program have achieved national recognition by having their creative work selected for the Society of North American Goldsmiths' (SNAG) 2025 Annual Juried Student Exhibition.

The exhibition, which is juried by J. Taran Diamond and Masako Onodera, showcases emerging metalsmith and jewelry artists from across North America, providing valuable exposure to galleries, collectors and industry professionals.

The App State students who were chosen for this prestigious honor are:

Hayden Girling, of Charlotte
Alissa Goble, of Hickory (who received an honorable mention for Best in Show)
Adri Pritchard, of Chapin, South Carolina
Maggie Schupp, of Raleigh

All four students are seniors pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in metalsmithing.

"This recognition demonstrates the exceptional caliber of our metalsmithing program," said Amy Johnson, chair of App State's Department of Art.

Frankie Flood, associate professor in App State's Department of Art, added that the achievement is particularly notable because the exhibition is predominantly a graduate-level show, making the selection of four App State undergraduates especially significant.

"This speaks to the students' talent, the strength of our curriculum and the guidance of area coordinators," said Flood.
