Goodnight Family Department of Sustainable Development Announces New Department Chair Dr. Jennifer Westerman

The Goodnight Family Department of Sustainable Development at Appalachian State University is announcing Dr. Jennifer Westerman as its new department chair on July 1. Westerman succeeds Dr. Richard Rheingans, who served as the department’s chair since 2016.

Westerman joined the Sustainable Development department in 2008. Her research and teaching focus on environmental humanities, environmental and social justice, and the intersection of working-class studies and labor environmentalism. She holds a PhD in Literature & Environment from the University of Nevada, Reno, and currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of ISLE: Interdisciplinary Studies in Literature and Environment, the international and transdisciplinary journal of the Association for the Study of Literature and Environment (ASLE). She is co-editor of Working on Earth: Class and Environmental Justice (U of Nevada P, 2015).
