Students honored at annual ITEEA Conference

Congratulations to senior Technology Education majors William Miner and Clay Nelson and Appropriate Technology graduate student Dan Blakeley, who were recognized at the annual International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) Conference March 2-4 in Washington, D.C.  Miner received the Donald Maley Spirit of Excellence Outstanding Undergraduate Citation, Nelson received the Outstanding Chapter Service Award from the Technology and Engineering Education Collegiate Association (TECA) and Blakeley received the Donald Maley Spirit of Excellence Outstanding Graduate Citation.

The Donald Maley Spirit of Excellence awards are named for Dr. Donald Maley, one of the profession's distinguished fellows and a founder of the Foundation for Technology and Engineering Educators (FTEE), and recognize excellence in scholarship and leadership potential.  Both Miner and Blakeley were nominated for the award based on their work here at Appalachian. The Outstanding Chapter Service Award is given to just one student annually. Nelson was nominated for the award by the ASU chapter of TECA.

Additionally, a team of students competed against schools from across the country and placed second in the conference's transportation challenge. The team worked together to transport items using drone technology and a collection apparatus built by the students. Members included Blakeley and Miner in addition to Clay Nelson, Elvie Sumner and Alex Wheaton.
