September 29 - October 3 Week in Review

It was a busy week here in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, with multiple events throughout the week. Here is a brief recap with photos:

9/30, Construction Design and Renewable Energy Technology Career Fair

Last Tuesday, over 130 organizations participated in the Construction, Design, and Renewable Energy Technology Career Fair at the Holmes Convocation Center. This event was created by our STBE program to connect employers and students in construction, design, and RET. Many students are successful in obtaining internships and post-graduation employment due to the connections made at the career fair. Student success is one of our top priorities at App State and throughout the College of Fine and Applied Arts. We extend a special "thank you" to the organizations, faculty, staff, and volunteers who made this possible!

App State ROTC program had the privilege of hosting the promotion ceremony for its Department Chair and Professor of Military Science Zach Jones. He was promoted from Major to Lieutenant Colonel, a major milestone that was accomplished with almost two decades of military service. Colonel Johnathan Post the 4th Brigade Army Cadet Command Commander oversaw the ceremony and served as the guest speaker.

10/1, Life Sucks.
The Department of Theatre and Dance opened its season with a compelling performance of Life Sucks., Aaron Posner's witty and poignant adaptation of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya. The production drew an engaged audience, including Dr. Shanshan Lou, Interim Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts. With biting humor and raw vulnerability, the cast brought to life a group of seven flawed yet endearing characters as they wrestled with love, loss, and the maddening complexity of human connection. The evening invited audiences to reflect on the question at the heart of the play: Does life really suck—or is there something more?

10/2, Founders Day
Last Thursday, October 2, the university held its annual fall tradition to honor Appalachian State University's founders and the first day of classes held in 1899. Our very own Dr. Anthony Wilson (97' '06), Associate Professor of Apparel Design & Merchandising and Director of Apparel Design & Merchandising, was inducted into the Bell Ringers Society.

After the event, there was a pizza party held on Sandford Mall - students, faculty, staff, and special guests joined to help celebrate the fall tradition!
