Since joining Appalachian State University in 2010, Professor Richard Prisco has guided the furniture concentration of Industrial Design with dedication and vision. Richard has been essential in shaping curriculum and fostering global industry connections. He has led projects with Groovy Stuff, WilsonArt, Eastman Chemical, Davis Furniture, and many more.
His students have exhibited works and won awards at AWFS in Atlanta, GA; ICFF in New York, NY; and at High Point Market in High Point, NC. He has mentored countless students and shared his knowledge, expertise, and experience, enriching their lives and helping them in their professional pursuits.
“It has been a true pleasure working with Richard for the past 16 years. I know he wants to get back to designing and creating furniture in his studio and he certainly deserves to do that. I wish him the very best in the next chapter.” – Donald Corey, Director of Industrial Design and Professor in the Department of Applied Design.
Richard served as the Interim Chair for the newly formed Department of Applied Design in the 2015-2016 academic year. His leadership was essential to setting up the department for its future successes. Additionally, he helped to secure multiple large donations ($250K+) that have allowed the Industrial Design program to enhance their shop capabilities for years to come as well as donations that have provided material and scholarships to the students in Industrial Design.
"Richard will be missed as a colleague, faculty member, and friend. His dedication to the students at Appalachian State has been a tremendous gift to us all." - Michael Rall, Associate Professor of Industrial Design and Assistant Chair in the Department of Applied Design.
Richard, thank you for your profound impact on our students and faculty, our college, and App State!
