Dr. Jean DehartFollowing a national search Dr. Jean DeHart was selected to fill the role of chair of the Department of Communication. Dr. DeHart served as interim chair following Dr. Janice Pope, who returned to the faculty of the department.

“I am pleased that Dr. DeHart has been selected as chair,” says Dr. Glenda Treadaway, Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts. “During her service as interim chair she proved to be capable and effective in the position and I look forward to her continued leadership of the department.”

Dr. DeHart joined the Department of Communication faculty in 1995. Her primary teaching is in the Communication Studies area, including courses in Political Communication, Political Humor, Speechwriting, and Interpersonal Communication. Dr. DeHart completed a B.A. degree with majors in Communication and Political Science at James Madison University, a M.A. degree in Speech and Theatre at the University of Tennessee, and a Ph.D. in Speech Communication at The University of Georgia. She is a Certified Empowerment Coach and currently serves as Vice-President of the Southern States Communication Association.

“I am honored to serve as chair of the Department of Communication. I look forward to continuing to work with the faculty, staff, students, and alumni of the department, as well as my colleagues across campus,” Dr. DeHart said.
