Painting & Drawing Student Recognized for Editorial Cartoon Excellence in Prestigious Collegiate Journalism Competition
BOONE, NC – Bobby Carter, a Painting & Drawing student, has been awarded First Place in the Editorial Cartoon category at the Pinnacle College Media Awards, presented by the College Media Association (CMA). Carter's winning work was featured in The Appalachian, Appalachian State University's student newspaper.
The Pinnacle Awards represent the highest honor in collegiate journalism, recognizing outstanding student work across the nation. As CMA's flagship national competition, the awards celebrate excellence in journalism, media production, and organizational achievement among college students nationwide.
Carter's first-place finish distinguishes him among hundreds of entries submitted from student media outlets across the country. The Editorial Cartoon category showcases students' ability to blend artistic talent with insightful social and political commentary, making Carter's achievement particularly noteworthy.
"The Pinnacle Awards span a wide range of categories—including writing, photography, design, multimedia storytelling, advertising, podcasting, and more—making this recognition a testament to the caliber of work being produced by our students," noted the College Media Association.
Winners are selected by a distinguished panel of experienced media professionals and educators who evaluate entries based on creativity, technical skill, and journalistic merit. Award recipients are announced each fall at the National College Media Convention, where the nation's best student journalists and media professionals gather to celebrate excellence in collegiate media.
The Pinnacle Awards serve as both a mark of quality and a career launchpad for student journalists. Finalists and recipients regularly use these accolades to strengthen résumés, portfolios, and graduate school applications, with many going on to successful careers in media, journalism, and the arts.
Carter's recognition highlights the intersection of fine arts and journalism, demonstrating how editorial cartooning continues to be a vital form of visual commentary in contemporary media. His work in The Appalachian newspaper showcases the important role that student media plays in fostering creative expression and journalistic excellence.
