Please join us in congratulating Dr. Carolyn Edy on her appointment as Assistant Chair of the Department of Communication at Appalachian State University. In this role, she will support departmental leadership, guide curriculum development, and champion faculty initiatives.
Dr. Edy began her journey at Appalachian State in 2011 as an instructor while completing her doctorate in journalism and mass communication at UNC–Chapel Hill.
Since then, she has risen to professor of digital journalism, demonstrating excellence in both teaching and scholarship.
Her award-winning research on the history of war correspondence has garnered national recognition. Highlights include several competitive grants and an honorable mention as first runner-up for Best Journalism History Book in 2018. She has also worked as a journalist for local and national newspapers, including Fortune, Good Housekeeping, U.S. News & World Report, and Yoga Journal.
