Freshman (0-29 semester hours)

  1. Navigate Appalachian's website to learn about campus resources, university policies, academic calendar and more.

  2. Familiarize yourself with AppalNet (your student portal) and learn how to add / drop classes, create a mock schedule, view your financial aid and review your student account.

  3. Learn the requirements to declare a major / minor.

  4. Schedule an appointment with the Career Exploration Office for career counseling, self-assessment, discovering and exploring career options / majors and strategizing your career goals / values.  Attend Majors Fair and Career Exploration Fair in October.

  5. Visit the Office of Campus Activities and get involved on campus by joining clubs and organizations (academic / non-academic) to develop and grow leadership and interpersonal skills, build your social network, explore personal interests and apply information learned in the classroom to real-world issues.

  6. Visit the Office of International Education and Development to learn more about study abroad opportunities.
