Wey Hall Renovation — Building on a History of Artistic Excellence

A fully modernized home for App State’s Department of Art

The comprehensive renovation of Herbert W. Wey Hall provides state-of-the-art studios, classrooms, labs, and gathering spaces that elevate teaching, learning and creative practice across the Department of Art.

Spaces for Creative Exploration

Wey Hall’s three floors are each tailored to specific media and pedagogy

First Floor — Sculpture, Casting, Ceramics, Metals

  • High-bay sculpture studios

  • Temperature-controlled kilns

  • Metal shop with welding booths

Second Floor — Printmaking, Papermaking, Fibers, Classrooms

  • Dedicated print studios

  • Paper labs

  • Fiber studios

  • Flexible classrooms for critique

Third Floor — Graphic Design, Drawing, Painting

  • Mac lab for design

  • Daylight painting studios

  • Digital fabrication access

You can establish a legacy by naming a space in Wey Hall. A naming gift will directly support our students, faculty and staff by addressing four key areas of need in our department:

  • Maintenance, preservation and advancement of infrastructure and equipment.

  • Student professional development and experiential learning opportunities.

  • Faculty research and development.

  • Student scholarships

As we welcome the next generation of art students to a refreshed and modernized Wey Hall, we hope you will consider joining us by investing in the future of art at Appalachian.
