Public review of student work for TEC 3728

All faculty and students are welcome to attend a public review of student work for TEC 3728, Residential Architecture, on Monday, December 4 from 9-11am (Section 104) and 4-6pm (Section 103).  Projects will be on display and students will be available to discuss their work.  The review is open, so feel free to come anytime during the review sessions.  Refreshments will also be provided.

The Appalachian Interior Design and Industrial Design seniors invite all alumni and the public to a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at Appalachian Panhellenic Hall. Interior Design alumni are invited to lunch the same day at 2 p.m. at the Mellow Mushroom.

CLARK NAMED DESIGNATED SERVICE-LEARNING MEMBER

Dr. Norman Clark in the Communication Department has been accepted as Designated Service-Learning Faculty member for 2006-07 for his work in the classroom, as well as his scholarship related to service-learning. 

Faculty members applied for this program based on their creative use of service-learning within their teaching and scholarship, and were selected by the ASU Service-Learning Faculty Task Force to receive this special designation. 

“His work in the classroom, as well as his scholarship related to service-learning has been fantastic,” said Shari Galiardi, Appalachian’s Service-Learning Coordinator. “He is very deserving of this designation.”

Jeanne Mercer-Ballard and Tim Dolan in the Interior Design program in the Department of Technology have been accepted as Designated Service-Learning Faculty members for 2006-07 for their work in the classroom, as well as their scholarship related to service-learning.

DIANNA THOMAS AWARDED KAPLAN CERTIFICATE

Junior Exercise Science pre-professional student, Dianna Thomas of Mobile, Alabama, was presented with a Kaplan Certificate Award for 2006-07 Nov. 16. Exercise Science is part of the Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science (HLES) at Appalachian.

Making the presentation were Exercise Science faculty member Dr. Harold O’Bryant and HLES chair Dr. Paul Gaskill. The certificate entitles Thomas to one free Kaplan classroom or online course, valued at $1,500. Thomas will use the certificate to enroll in Kaplan’s prep course for the Medical School Admission Test (MCAT).

The HLES Department was awarded the voucher based on its outstanding placement record for students in professional programs such as pre-medicine, physical and occupational therapy, physician assistant and chiropractic services.

The certificate was to be awarded to a deserving pre-professional student who shows promise for admission to professional school. Selection was based on academic merit, commitment to career choice and financial need.
